Things to Do
1. Shop/Dine Downtown Solvang
Downtown Solvang is where the Danish Village comes to California and provides a great experience for shopping, dining and wine tasting. There are more than 150 unique shops in Solvang. Danish culture comes alive in Solvang.
The actual tourist district of Solvang is only 8 to 10 blocks long and 2 to 3 blocks wide but a lot goes into that small area. The best way to explore Solvang is to first walk the length of Copenhagen Drive from Atterdag Road to Alisal Road. You will see the majority of shops on Copenhagen Drive or Mission Drive.
Mission Drive is the main thoroughfare. Copenhagen Drive and Mission Drive can be very crowded with most of the shops on either street.

2. Wine Tasting Rooms
Great Central Coast wine come from this region (Santa Ynez Valley) and this area was the setting for the popular movie, Sideways. Most wineries require you to drive to the individual wineries but in Solvang, the wineries come to you. Simply walk down Copenhagen Drive or Mission Drive and you’ll have access to wine tasting rooms that feature great local Central Coast Wines !
One of the most popular vineyard and winery to visit in the Solvang area is Rideau Winery. It’s not located in downtown. You’ll have to drive to this winery. Rideau Winery is located across the street from Quicksilver Ranch (home of the mini-horses) on 1562 Alamo Pintado Rd., Solvang. The tasting room is superb and the wines are excellent. It’s the perfect way to un-wind after shopping in Downtown Solvang.

3. Ostrichland USA
Ostrichland is one of Solvang’s best kept secret and makes a wonderful place to take your kids. Think of Ostrichland as a zoo for Ostriches and Emus. There are more than 50 Ostriches and Emus and entry fee includes food to feed these large birds.
Parents should be attentive with their kids because these giant birds can become a little aggressive when feeding but it’s a place the entire family will love.
I would budget one hour for the visit. It’s one of the few places where visitors are active participants in feeding the animals. In fact, you’re expected to feed the animals, which is why kids love this place.
The cost is $6 per person and open from 9 am to dusk

4. Quicksilver Ranch
Have you ever seen miniature horses? I mean cute ones ! Well, this is the place. Quicksilver Ranch is an unusual place where you park, get out of your car and walk around the ranch to view miniature horses. There’s no admission gate or person to talk to, just an open ranch where you walk around and take pictures of the horses. THAT’S ITS ! No fan-fare, No admission fee, No introduction …. Park, Get Out of Car, Walk Around Ranch, Take Pictures. The horses are normally fenced so visitors remain outside of the low wire fence.
Open from 9 am to 3 pm. Budget one-half hour. Great for kids ! Perfect tourist stop-over.

5. Mission Santa Ines
Originally established in 1804, the Spanish Mission of Santa Ines is located on the edge of Downtown Solvang. It’s the perfect place to relax, meditate and take in the wonderful history of the California missions. The mission is also an active parish of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, so a lot goes on here beside bustling tourists. Parish information can be found at Parish Info
